What is Bespoke Undertakings?

Bespoke Undertakings is America's first consultancy exclusively for families with cremated remains at home, providing permanent placement and memorialization plans.

Post-cremation consultancy means we work exclusively with families who already have cremated remains in their possession. We are not a funeral home. We do not handle bodies. We do not perform cremations. By the time families come to us, all of that is behind them.

Our work starts after cremation: exploring options, planning memorialization, coordinating placement at cemeteries or columbariums, arranging scattering, and ensuring proper documentation.

We fill a gap that has existed for decades. There is help before cremation. There is help after burial. There is nothing in between. Until now.

The Business Model

Salaried consultants. No commissions on recommendations.

Transparent pricing. Published rates. No hidden fees.

Expert guidance. Licensed funeral directors with real credentials. The trust families place in us is worth more than any commission.

The Origin Story

I've watched families with clear, specific plans fail to execute them. Not because of negligence. Not because of conflict. Because nobody's job was to see it through. The funeral home's role ended. The family was grieving. The logistics fell through the cracks.

It has happened in my own family. Three generations of funeral directors, and we still couldn't make it work.

That is when I understood: the problem is not knowledge. The problem is infrastructure. Someone's job has to be making sure the plan actually happens. I built Bespoke Undertakings to be that infrastructure.

Short Bio (for publication)

Joe Bell is founder of Bespoke Undertakings and a licensed funeral director and embalmer in four states. With three generations of family funeral service heritage and an MBA, Joe identified a structural gap in deathcare: families choose cremation but have no expert guidance on permanent placement. When his own family could not execute a loved one's final wishes despite their professional expertise, he recognized the problem was not knowledge but infrastructure. He built Bespoke Undertakings to provide that missing piece. Based in Denton, Texas, Bespoke serves families across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Most people don't know what to do after the cremation. There's no clear next step. So the ashes sit in a closet. Or they get lost in a move. Or worse. I started this because I believe everyone deserves a permanent place to rest, and families deserve someone in their corner to help make that happen.

Joe Bell, Founder

I started noticing something: families would pick up their loved one's ashes and then... nothing. No plan. No guidance. Once cremation was complete, there was no natural next step. These folks were left figuring it out alone. That did not sit right with me.

Joe Bell, Founder

Story Angles

Here is what happens after cremation: A family brings ashes home. Maybe it is temporary. Maybe it is "for now" until they figure out what comes next. Except "for now" becomes five years. Ten years. Twenty.

An urn sits on a bookshelf. In a closet. In a drawer. No permanent place. No record. No resolution. When ashes have no permanent place, the person has no permanent record. Genealogists cannot find them. Future descendants do not know where to honor them. The family does not have closure.

Genealogists spend hours researching family history. Cemetery records. Burial dates. Headstones. But cremation families? Often there is no trail.

If ashes are scattered with no ceremony recorded, there is no paper. If they sit in an urn at home, there is no official placement. Future descendants will not know where their ancestor's remains are, when they were placed, or who made the decision.

Most families want to do something. 95% say honoring their loved one is important. But more than a third keep remains at home indefinitely. Why? Because "someday" is not a date.

Families are not rejecting ceremony. They are rejecting the execution problem. When a funeral home is involved, execution is scheduled, coordinated, handled. When cremation happens, the family is supposed to coordinate the rest themselves. But they are grieving. They are scattered. They are overwhelmed. So "someday" becomes "never."

Every eligible veteran has earned free burial at a VA national cemetery. Free grave. Free headstone. Free opening and closing. Military honors.

Most families simply don't know these benefits exist. The information is available but rarely presented at the right moment. The Earned Honor brand from Bespoke Undertakings exists specifically to ensure veteran families understand their benefits and receive the dignified placement their service earned.

Joe Bell comes from three generations of funeral directors. 78 years of family funeral service heritage. Yet when a loved one in his own family died with a clear plan, they could not execute it. Not because of incompetence. Because nobody's job was to execute it. That realization became a business.

Cremation is 63% of U.S. dispositions and rising. Yet dedicated post-cremation guidance has never existed as a standalone service category.

Traditional funeral homes are structured around pre-cremation services. Crematories focus on the cremation itself. Cemeteries sell burial plots. No one was focused exclusively on what happens after cremation when families already have remains at home. Bespoke Undertakings occupies that space.

200 Words

Bespoke Undertakings is America's first consultancy exclusively for families with cremated remains at home, providing permanent placement and memorialization plans.

The company addresses a structural gap in deathcare. Funeral homes and crematories handle urgent needs: caring for the deceased and completing cremation. But once families receive the ashes, professional guidance ends. Most families don't realize how many options exist (cemetery niches, scattering ceremonies, home memorials, cremation jewelry) or how to evaluate them. Many put off decisions for years. That's the gap Bespoke Undertakings fills.

Founded by Joe Bell, a third-generation funeral director with over 25 years of experience, Bespoke Undertakings operates on a different model than traditional funeral homes. There's no chapel, no hearse fleet, no crematory, and no commissions. Consultants earn salaries, so recommendations are based on family needs, not sales incentives. Pricing is published on the company's website.

Bell holds funeral director licenses in Texas, South Carolina, Montana, and Washington, along with the Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) credential and an MBA. His Earned Honor brand specifically serves veteran families, coordinating free VA national cemetery placement and military honors.

Based in Denton, Texas, Bespoke Undertakings serves families across the 8.5-million-resident Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The company launches publicly on January 28, 2026.

FAQ

Bespoke Undertakings is not a funeral home, crematory, or licensed funeral establishment. We do not handle bodies, perform cremations, or take custody of decedents. Our work begins after the family already has cremated remains in their possession. When tasks require a licensed funeral establishment or cemetery operator, the family contracts directly with that provider. We can attend, interpret options, and support decisions, but we don't replace the licensed provider's role. Our founder holds funeral director licenses in Texas (#120653), South Carolina, Montana, and Washington, which are verifiable through state licensing boards.

No. We never take custody of cremated remains. The ashes stay in the family's possession throughout our engagement. When placement occurs (at a cemetery, columbarium, or scattering location) the family or the receiving facility handles the physical transfer. We coordinate, advise, and attend, but custody remains with the family or passes directly to the final placement provider.

Funeral homes handle what happens immediately after death: first call, body care, cremation or burial, and services. Their work typically ends when the family receives the ashes. Bespoke Undertakings' work begins there. We help families who already have cremated remains figure out permanent placement, including options like cemetery inurnment, scattering, home memorials, or cremation jewelry. We don't maintain chapels, fleets, or crematories. We focus exclusively on post-cremation guidance.

Cemeteries sell burial plots, niches, and related services at their specific location. They're one option among many. Bespoke Undertakings is vendor-agnostic. We help families understand all their options (including cemeteries, scattering, home memorials, and more), then coordinate with whichever providers the family chooses. We work for the family, not for any cemetery or vendor.

Estate planners and attorneys handle legal and financial matters: wills, trusts, asset distribution. They typically don't get involved in the physical logistics of what happens to cremated remains. Bespoke Undertakings handles the practical coordination: exploring placement options, scheduling with cemeteries, arranging scattering ceremonies, sourcing urns, and ensuring proper documentation. We're operational, not legal.

All pricing is published at bespokeundertakings.com/pricing. Core service tiers:

Bespoke Undertakings is based in Denton, Texas and primarily serves the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. However, much of what we do (options exploration, planning sessions, vendor research, documentation) can be handled virtually. For families outside our service area, we offer remote consultation. If physical presence is needed for placement attendance, for example, we can discuss travel arrangements or refer to local providers.

Texas permits scattering of cremated remains on private property with the owner's written consent, on public land where not prohibited, and at sea (following EPA guidelines for distance from shore). Scattering in state parks requires a permit. We help families understand what's permitted, obtain necessary permissions, and coordinate logistics. For scattering locations outside Texas, we research applicable state or local regulations.

Because it's new. The funeral industry has operated the same way for decades. We identified a gap (families choosing cremation but receiving no guidance on permanent placement) and built a service to fill it. You haven't heard of it because it didn't exist until now.

They can. Everything we help with is technically something families could figure out on their own. But most don't know where to start, what questions to ask, or what options exist. We know the cemeteries, the regulations, the vendors, and the pitfalls. We can save families time, frustration, and costly mistakes, especially during a period when they're grieving and decision-making is hard.

That's completely fine. There's no deadline for permanent placement. Some families take months; some take years. We're here when they're ready, not before. Our entry-level service ($495) includes a written plan families can execute on their own timeline, and that fee can be applied toward a higher service tier within 30 days if they decide they want more support.

Yes. Our Happily Ever Ashes brand offers curated urns, keepsake urns, cremation jewelry, and memorial products. Prices range from $15 for memorial stationery to $25,000 for high-end memorial jewelry. Clients who purchase service packages receive 10-15% merchandise discounts. We also help families source products from other vendors if they prefer. We're not trying to capture every sale, just help families find what's right for them.

Our Earned Honor Veteran Placement service ($495) covers: personal planning session, DD-214 review and eligibility verification, pre-need eligibility for surviving spouse, urn compliance verification, VA national cemetery scheduling, military honors arrangement, all required paperwork, written day-of plan, family briefing, honors confirmation, professional presence at cemetery, online memorial tribute, vinyl flag protector, and 15% merchandise discount. The VA provides the grave, headstone, opening/closing, and military honors at no cost to the family.

Our founder is a licensed funeral director with verifiable credentials in four states. You can look up Texas license #120653 on the Texas Funeral Service Commission website. Our consultants earn salaries, not commissions, so recommendations are based on family needs, not incentives. Our pricing is transparent and published. We voluntarily follow FTC Funeral Rule consumer-protection principles even though we're not legally required to. We stake our professional reputation on doing this well.
